BENJI Makes Debut on Tiesto’s Musical Freedom Label with “Steel Eyes”

Considered the “golden boy of EDM,” Canadian producer BENJI released his debut single, “Steel Eyes,” featuring Sherry St. Germain, over the past month. Although the producer has worked under other projects over the years, his debut single was released through Tiesto’s Musical Freedom label. Incorporating electronic and acoustic elements, “Steel Eyes” has been promoted by Tiesto, David Guetta, Afrojack, Pete Tong, and other established DJs.

BENJI spoke about his career start and about being on Musical Freedom with KOVideo.net.

How did you get started with producing?

Fascinated from an early age by keys, synthesizers, and the love of the music drove me to produce.

Your debut is notable for its inclusion of acoustic elements but maintaining a progressive house sound.  Why did you decide to give your track an acoustic aspect?

I am a big fan of fusing different styles into one and make it my own. It’s a style that inspires me. The emotion of the vocals and melodies are still in line with the progressive genre.

What plans do you have for future tracks?

I have many tracks on the go at the moment. “Steel Eyes” was my first release on Tiesto’s Musical Freedom. Right now I am working on finishing the follow-up, which I am very excited about.

Are you preparing for an album?

I definitely have my sights set on my first artist album but the timing has to be right. I want to release more of my original singles, along with some selected remixes before I start on the beautiful journey of creating my first artist album.

Right now, you are signed to Tiesto’s Musical Freedom. How do you feel about being Tiesto’s label?

I feel blessed that Tiesto has chosen me to be a part of the Musical Freedom family; it’s truly an honor.  He is a great mentor both as an artist and friend.

Where would you like to see your career go?

I don’t like to put limitations of myself or my sound; sky is truly the limit for me. I want to just push forward with the sound I love and like to play while being on stage.

Are you doing any upcoming live performances? If so, when and where?

At the moment I am in the studio everyday finishing new singles, but I will be heading out on the road soon. Excited to play my tunes out for the masses =)
