Artists Paloma Faith, Graham Coxon, and ex- The Coral Guitarist Bill Ryder-Jones to Release Corporate Sponsored Single-Jingle
Though Graham Coxon, when he was part of the band Blur had no real obvious political standing where corporations were concerned, the reaction of Blur fans and indeed of fans to the guitarist himself over his collaboration with Paloma Faith and Bill Ryder-Jones and their corporate single collaboration will be interesting.
This is more than a band or artist letting their song be used to promote a product as the three have been commissioned to write the song for the Converse shoe company. This is new territory as effectively the three are collaborating to write a corporate jingle.
From Coxons perspective however, it does appear that working with the artists themselves was the most appealing aspect of the project. "I've always liked the idea of me actually writing songs and girls singing them, and Id seen Paloma on TV and thought, 'Wow man, she's crackers!'. And I was always a fan of The Coral I used to watch them live. Bill's a very good guitarist."
He also admitted that he did have reservations about writing a song for the corporation. "I did have to ask people when I first got involved in it. Whether its kosher or it isn't... I mean, where I come from 'indie land' 20 years ago you didn't do stuff like that."
He added: "But I'm quite happy now. Especially now the song's coming out and working with Bill and Paloma."
The song is called Desire, and is available for download via the Converse website. Whether it focuses around stilettos or hush puppies is unknown.
