Amadou & Mariam Announce North American Tour
In support of their new album Folila, the Malian music duo Amadou & Mariam has announced their first North American tour since 2009.
"The blind couple from Mali" will tour with a seven-piece band through August. Married since 1980 and playing together since 1983, the duo became more successful stateside with the release of their 2004 album Dimanche a Bamako ("Sunday in Bamako"). The landmark album was produced by world-Latin music star Manu Chao.
Since then, the duo has supported Damon Albarn, Scissor Sisters, Coldplay, and U2 across the world. Folila, their eighth studio album, was released on April 2 and includes guest spots by Santigold, TV on the Radio, and Scissor Sisters' Jake Shears.
