Alicia Keys Reveals Concept Album for 2015
Less than two years ago, Alicia Keys turned out Girl on Fire, which went onto do well on the charts, score a Grammy for Best R&B Album, and generate a hit single with its title track. Now, as 2014 reaches its midpoint, Keys spoke about her plans for a follow-up to WWD.
In promoting a new Givenchy fragrance, she told the fashion magazine that, rather than solely focus on melody this time around, she has a concept album in mind. She said, via Popdust: “This time it’s more about what we’re going through as human beings. We all experience similar things. I find that the world puts us in these boxes where we’re only allowed to be one way — like, ‘to succeed as a career woman, you need to do it this way,’ or ‘to be a gay man, you have to be this way.’ First of all, we’re so much more complex than that. It’s about breaking down those boundaries. The songs concentrate on concepts like that. As human beings, we like to identify with something, and as for me, I love people with a strong point of view.”
The untitled as of yet effort is expected to drop in early 2015.
Keys began work on Girl on Fire not long after getting married to producer Swizz Beatz, the father of son Egypt. The album was her first on RCA, after J Records closed, and generated singles “Girl on Fire,” “Brand New Me,” “New Day,” and “Fire We Make.”
