Album of New Michael Jackson Songs to be Released With New Sony Phone
Since Michael Jackson’s death in 2009, posthumous album Michael was already released, and a second, with Timbaland and L.A. Reid producing, had been rumored. Now, according to a report from the International Business Times, the Timbaland-involved release is coming out – but not in a typical format.
An album of unreleased and lost material from Jackson is expected to come out with the new Sony Xperia Z2 smart phone, which will cost about $600 in the U.S. and £600 overseas. Sony Music Entertainment, appearing to take a page from Jay-Z’s partnership with Samsung for his Magna Carta Holy Grail album last year, plans to put out the still-untitled release as pre-installed music onto the phone.
According to reports, Reid’s Epic Records produced the release, with Timbaland contributing. Regarding what listeners should expect to hear, Timbaland’s DJ Freestyle Steve recently mentioned: "So last night I heard some of the new tracks Timbaland is doing for the King of Pop … WOW!"
News of a Timbaland-produced album for the late King of Pop emerged in August 2013. At the time, the producer spoke with Revolt TV, implying that he was involved in such a project without giving too many details. It appeared, at the time, that he’d be combining his own style with Jackson’s, and one of the tracks to come out would be named “Chicago.”
