Air Announces New Album
The French electro duo Air have revealed their seventh studio album, Le Voyage Dans La Lune.
The title, which translates to "A Trip to the Moon," was inspired by the 1902 French silent film by Georges Méliès. Originally conceived as a new soundtrack to the 14-minute long film, according to NME the duo decided to turn the project into a full album after premiering the soundtrack at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year.
The group's sound is indeed otherworldly, and, according to the group's Nicolas Godin, the album is "undoubtedly more organic than most of [their past projects]." The duo "wanted it to sound 'handmade and knocked together,' a bit like Méliès' special effects. Everything is played live and like Méliès' film, our soundtrack is nourished by living art."
The album will feature Au Revoir Simone and Beach House's Victoria Legrand, and is due on February 7th through Astralwerks. A Limited Edition set will also be available, limited to only 70,000 copies worldwide, that will include the album with a bonus DVD of the restored film with Air's original film score. It's their first album since 2009's Love 2.
