Aerosmith in the Studio for New Album

Aerosmith is in the studio and getting an album of new material ready for a May 2012 release. Recently, the Walk This Way band has been seen at Joe Perry’s home studio, The Boneyard, and at their main recording location Pandora’s Box. Additionally, footage of the band in the studio surfaced today.

About the sound of the recording, producer Jack Douglas mentioned: "This album will be raw, nasty, tough rock with a good deal of the old Aerosmith 'tongue in cheek.'"

However, Douglas also stated: "The new album should be out around May 2012. I know that's a long wait, but after the South American tour and Japan in October, November and December, we will just get back to work on it in mid-January."

The still-untitled album will be Aerosmith’s latest release since their 2004 disc of covers Honkin’ On Bobo and their first of original material since 2001’s Just Push Play.

While Steven Tyler and Perry have not commented about the album, bassist Tom Hamilton said on the band’s website via a videotaped message: "For those of you who don't know who Jack is, he's the guy who we worked with, producing our best albums of the '70s — 'Get Your Wings', 'Toys In The Attic' and 'Rocks'. And it's really gonna be cool, because there's no one that knows more about the soul of this band and the creative part of this band [than] Jack. We worked with him on 'Honkin' On Bobo', but that wasn't all original material — most of that was not original material. This time it's gonna be all-new Aerosmith songs."

If you can recall, Perry and Tyler, who was about to go on American Idol as a judge, clashed, with the guitarist stating the band was looking for a new singer. After Tyler’s stint on Idol, however, the band has become more visible and grew its fan base. Tyler’s time on Idol also delayed production of the new album.
