Adele Storms 46 Places to Top British Chart with "Someone like You"
Adeles single, "Someone like you" has risen a dramatic 46 places to go to the top of the British chart. This dramatic turn of events follows a successful performance at the Brit Awards last week, in which several artists who appeared at the ceremony made dramatic gains in the UK chart.
Adeles single success currently mirrors her album success with her second album, 21, sitting at the number 1 position. This makes Adele only the second British artist to have two albums and two singles in the top five position of the British Chart at the same time. Her album 19, and her single "Rolling in the Deep" both sit at number four in their respective charts. The last band to achieve that was The Beetles in 1964.
Adeles performance of the song at the Brit Awards triggered the sales of the song, knocking last weeks number one position holder, Jessie J with her song "Price tag" to the number 2 position. Lady Gagas "Born This Way" could only make it to number 3.
Bands and artists that played in last weeks Brit Awards have all benefited from the exposure. Mumford and Sons rose 13 places in the album charts to number 2, while Tinie Tempah debut album rose 19 places to number 6, and Plan Bs, The Defamation of Strickland Banks, rose 17 places to number 7.
PJ Harvey, saw her new album, Let England Shake, enter the chart at number eight. Her first top ten album chart position since 1993s, Rid of Me record.
