English singer songwriter Adele celebrated being at the top of the UK album chart with her album, 21. The album sold 208,000 copies in its first week of release. This represents the fastest selling January album for five years, with only the Artic Monkeys debut, Whatever People Say I am That’s What I’m Not, outselling Adele’s record with 363,000 copies sold.

Adele is also enjoying UK single chart success too, with her song Rolling In The Deep promisingly situated at number 3.

The year promises to be a good one for the singer songwriter who has always commanded good reviews from the critics, and she has now and again put them in their place over comparisons to her contemporaries such as Amy Winehouse and Duffy.

Currently there are no rumours or confirmed plans for the next release from 21. If the singles perform as well as her album then she will no doubt be breaking open the champagne.

At one point Adele’s record, 21 was outselling the rest of the rest of the UK album chart top ten, according to The Official Charts Company.

Adele recently announced that she is to play at the iTunes festival on the 7th July, at the Roundhouse in Camden. Free tickets are set to be given away to fans at itunesfestival.com.

She is also set to play three gigs in Birmingham, Manchester, and Leeds throughout April.

Adele’s success could be down to two facts, one she has come at the right time, and two, she has a magical quality about her that many people find appealing.
