Adam Ant Prepares for New Album and Tour

Adam Ant is trying his hand at a comeback, of sorts. While not orchestrating a revival for the sake of 1980s nostalgia, Adam Ant put together an album, expected to be released in January 2012, and is preparing for a U.S. tour. Recently, he’s been performing in Europe and has received a positive response, so far. Regarding the new music and tours, Ant’s agent James Harding said: "To be given the opportunity to be an integral part of this historical run of US shows and as such, helping Adam to build a solid foundation for his ongoing career beyond, is very exciting indeed."

During his time out of the spotlight, Ant attempted an acting career in the U.S. and had only moderate success, and in the early ‘00s, he starting having health issues. Ant, in an interview with KentNews.co.uk, appeared enthusiastic about the next stage of his music career, which includes owning his own label with three bands and managing himself: “It used to be the case that when I toured I never had any time off. If I did, then the record company would fill it up with something. But now, as I’m doing it all myself, it’s a little different. I love going into the towns I’m performing, buying some books, some clothes, picking up a guitar. I do tend to enjoy the experience now. But then I love playing live.”

He went on to say: “Well, I say, that, Smash Hits and the daily newspapers made Adam and the Ants successful. I do read the reviews, but they’re not the main motivator. I try and give a good night’s entertainment, keep it simple, and that’s all I can do.

“We do all the hits, because that’s what people want. I don’t do medleys, and there’s not a big stage show. There’s just me and the six-piece band and we’re playing some rare stuff, some of the b-sides.

“We’re now learning the new album – another 16 songs – so we’ll do a few of those live.

“The process is to get out there and give people want they want and what we want. The equation is quite simple. If we enjoy it, then it tends to be the case the audience enjoys it.”

Ant, in the interview, revealed that he is opposed to downloading music and internet technology in general, as well. As a result, his album, titled Adam Ant Is The Blueblack Hussar In Marrying The Gunners Daughter, will be sold as a double vinyl, CD, and box set.
