Abbey Road By The Beatles Is The Top Seller

After all these years, the 'Abbey Road' album, by the Beatles is still the top-selling vinyl record in the US. 'Abbey Road' was released back in 1969 (as a vinyl then), and even in these days of the compact disc (CD), the vinyl LP is still selling. In 2011, 41,000 vinyl LPs were sold in the US.  

Since its release, critics have claimed that 'Abbey Road' is the most tightly constructed Beatles' album, even though the band were hardly functioning at this time. The Beatles disbanded the following year (1970).

Come Together, Something, and Here Comes The Sun were perhaps the three most famous songs on the album, although Maxwell's Silver Hammer has always been fairly popular. 

The Abbey Road Studios, where the Beatles recorded most of their work, have come under threat of demolition by property developers. However, the British Government has stepped in, granting English Heritage Status and  thereby preventing major alterations to the building.

Now London's Abbey Road Studios will soon be allowing the general public into the legendary Studio Two (used by the Beatles). As well as being in the room where legends were born, the vintage equipment used to record the classic songs and albums will be able to be viewed.

This year marks the 80th anniversary  of the studio, and celebrations will occur through the year. Brian Kehew and Kevin Ryan, the authors of the book Recording The Beatles, have prepared an audiovisual presentation entitled 80 Years of Recording at Abbey Road Studios which will be shown to the visiting public. Photos, film and other memorabilia will accompany the AV presentation showing some of the famous personalities along with the improvements to equipment during its lifetime.
