50 Cent And Eminem At SXSW
SXSW rap patrons had one of their wildest dreams come true on Friday night. All week there were rumours circulating around the showcase for Shady Records: "Will the Slim Shady actually appear?" On Friday night, 50 Cent headlined the concert in the Austin Music Hall where he performed his debut album from 2003, Get Rich or Die Tryin' - he performed it in its entirety, all of the 16 songs in the same tracklist order as on the album.
On the album, Eminem features on the second track, "Patiently Waiting". On this particular Friday night in Austin, Texas, Eminem suddenly appeared on the stage - dressed in jeans and trademark hoodie - to support his record label performer again. Who heard it? The roar from the crowd was so overwhelming, seeing the Slim Shady himself, no-one could have been more excited. The second last track on the album (and Friday's show), "Don't Push Me" is another featuring Em, and he followed up on the night.
Fans were treated even further as Eminem joined 50 Cent in the encore for the night - "Crack a Bottle", "Love Me", and finally "'Til I Collapse".
An encore, is an encore. When the rappers left the stage, the audience stayed and waited, ever hopeful. However, that was all. Rumours during the week proved great, but when the show's over, the show's over.
50 Cent and Eminem put out a real crowd pleaser. More than just a great music show, the commentary by 50 Cent turned out to be really entertaining in itself. Talking to the crowd, he said, "It's been 10 years. That album sold 13 million copies." He, too, was surprised at the success of Get Rich or Die Tryin'. "The money came so fast, ..." he said, as the crowd laughed. "I was trying everything I could think of."
