"1973" Video Review

After the massive world wide sucess of You're Beautiful and Back To Bedlam, here is the first taste of James Blunts 'All The Last Souls' due September 18th: 1973 is to be the first single from his sophomore album.

The track has James effing Blunt written all over it. The Brit's barely-there guitar and keyboars from Bedlam try to cover up the annoying falsetto that graced our ears probably a million times with Beautiful. The unstable track brings air of a sophomore slump waiting to happen. Maybe James Blunt will return to the obscurity from which he came from, or will proper marketing make this You're Beautiful part Two? Alas, James Blunt fans will not be discouraged and pop-lovers will be charmed somewhat.

The video, in which a modern-day Blunt strolls among '70s street scenes, reflects the song's nostalgic tone. "The '70s sound like they were a time of excess and great flamboyance" he says, "but a sense of fun as well".

So is he having any fun shvitzing in the 100-plus-degree L.A. sun? "I'm not that comfortable in front of a camera," Blunt laments. "[All] I've got to do is try not to look like I'm sweating in this leather jacket. As jobs go, that's not too hard".
